WEEK 3: GRATITUDE

Videos about Gratitude

1.  A 6 minute video by Louis Schwartzberg on Gratitude

2.  Fred Rogers acceptance speech to a Lifetime achievement award.

Journal about the videos if you like.

What things did this video prompt in your own mind/heart/memory that you can feel grateful for?

Why is it important to examine the world around us and to show gratitude for things and experiences in our life?

Scripture Meditation

There are many scriptures that focus on gratitude.  These are a few, but we invite you to do a search on the word "Thank" in Scripture to meditate on verses.  Psalms in particular is full of scriptures that are excellent for meditating on gratitude.

Gratitude Activities

  • Each day this week, pick one aspect of your spouse that you are grateful for and call attention to it. Thank your spouse, call attention to that aspect, and be grateful for it.
  • Take some time out of your week to pause and be grateful for the things around you. These “things” can be material, emotional, physical, relational, or spiritual.
  • Spend some time in prayer thanking God for the blessings in your life.
  • Start a gratitude journal. Take some time to reflect on the past day or week and write about three to five things you are especially grateful for.
  • Create a gratitude collage. Take photos throughout the week, collect photos from other sources, or create a Pinterest board of things you are grateful for.
  • If you would like to get your children involved, make a gratitude tree as a fun activity. Supplies you will need include several double-sided colored sheets of paper, string or ribbon, scissors, twigs or tree branches, and a vase. Follow the instructions outlined in this video:
